There are four methods in which bond can be posted for the release of an inmate from the Madison County Detention Facility:

  1. CASH BOND: If your charges are through the City of Huntsville, bond will need to be posted with the City of Huntsville Magistrate (256-427-7817). Bond can be posted 24 hours a day. All others will post bond with the District Court Clerk’s Office (256-532-3373) on the 8th floor of the Courthouse. This must be done between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

  2. PROPERTY BOND: A Property Bond is based on the CURRENT YEAR tax assessment of real property owned by the person(s) attempting to secure an inmate’s release. A Property Bond may be made at the Sheriff’s Office, Room 206, at the Madison County Courthouse between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). On holidays or after hours, call 256-519-4800 for more information.

The assessed value of the property must be equal to or greater than the bond amount. Additionally, if the bond is over $3,500.00, at least TWO property holders must sign the bonds. Joint owners (for example, a husband and wife) meet this requirement. All owners listed on the tax assessment sheet must be present to complete the bond. In the event one of the parties is deceased, a death certificate must be presented.

The incarcerated inmate is not allowed to sign for a property bond using property they are listed as an owner on.

Multiple properties may be used to meet the bond totals.

The properties must be in Madison County for the Sheriff’s Office or Jail to approve the bond. Properties outside of Madison County must be handled through the sheriff’s office of the county in which the property is located. Contact the respective sheriff’s for specifics in those counties.

  3. PRE-TRIAL RELEASE: This type of release is approved by the Pre-Trial Release Program Office (532-3663) or by writing:
    Alternative Sentencing and Parole
    715 Wheeler Avenue
    Huntsville, AL 35801
    Attn: Donald McDonald

  4. PROFESSIONAL BONDING COMPANY: Release may be made through a private bonding company approved by the Sheriff’s Department.
